The 49ers Offensive Line is...Offensive

The 49ers offense looked awful last night in the shitty loss to the Broncos. How awful? Perhaps as bad as I've seen offensive line in all my years watching organized football. The blind kid youtube sensation kid could start for this oline. Joe Looney starts for this oline. When Joe Looney is on your team, and makes the final 53, you know your team's oline is awful. Sometimes I wonder who scouts these guys in college, because I have no idea how guys like Pears, Looney and Ian Silberman are on NFL rosters.

Erik Pears is a bum. As in he should be homeless and not playing a sport. Watching him try to block DeMarcus Ware was hilarious. It kinda reminds me of when some dumb local rapper complains with jealousy about why he hasn't made it, or why his songs aren't on the radio - he has no talent and no chance. It's basically a hobby at this point, and that's what the guys on our oline look like - hobby football players.

Jordan Devey not only blows on the field, but he blew the tuba in high school and college like a dork. Joe Looney showed who he was last year, a revolving door and possibly the worst lineman on the team (and the league) if it weren't for Jonathan Martin. Marcus Martin isn't ready, and even if he was, the 49ers don't know how to use him. Kilgore is hurt and barely an NFL Starter.

Kapernick was running for his life last night, as he did most of last year. With guys like Evan Mathis available (before last week), I have no idea why they haven't tried to bolster this unit. Oh wait, I know why...because Jed York doesn't want to spend any more money on personnel.  Until this happens, the 49ers can't have high expectations. The offensive line is shit. The niners got off like 11 plays in the first half. Kaep was 2 for 5 for 13 yards. It was pathetic.

So, you wonder why Kaepenick led the league in getting sacked last year, even though he is the quickest, most mobile qb in the league. The 49ers are all about the "next man up", but when your next man up is someone who should be sleeping under a freeway overpass, it's not a good look. They're experimenting with different player combinations, but it doesn't matter. They all suck. We'll never know the full potential Kaepernick has with this oline. We'll never know how good Torry Smith, Patton, Ellington, White, even Reggie Bush can be with this oline. The defense looks fine, even with the personnel losses, but the 49ers won't win with this oline. Period.
